Organized ADHDers... What modifications/systems best facilitate your ability to adhere to a schedule, meet expectations, and relatively consistently live well?

What have you eliminated?

If you study consistently and efficiently, generally eat, wake-up, and go to bed at the same times, hold up your end of friendships and relationships, get enough exercise, arrive on time, can see your bedroom floor, your white coat's white, and you're usually kempt, what's your formula?

How do you plan your days? What restrictions do you impose when scheduling/making lists? Do you keep digital or paper planners? Both?

Females: any strategies for combatting pre-menstrual declines in focus, etc....?

Procrastinators: what's worked?

If you've tamed any volcanos related to this condition, how'd you do it?

Thanks, guys.

For me it seemed the pomodoro technique works well for me. It gives me a period of being productive and then switching to a break where I can distract myself. If it is truly a bad day I will just change the way I am studying compared to my normal way of studying i.e watch an outside lecture, make a concept map. do some study technique that I don't normally do. Switching subjects helps me as well.

I use a electronic calendar on my Ipad because I always have it on me and set reminders to keep myself on track.

No dx of ADHD but can identify with several of the struggles you mention. No perfect solutions here but here are some goals I aim for and here’s to fewer mistakes.

I aim for minimalism. One todo list for everything in my life, preferably written but negotiable. Can’t stick to a specific schedule so I aim for patterns, (easier to mold to lecture only days, but can adapt to 3rd yr clinical scenarios) 3 sessions morning 7-11, afternoon 1-5, evening 7-11. Most obligations fall here. Working occurs during these times, is not expected outside of these times. Take the afternoon off? Start back up at 7.

Pomodoro during these times. Break times are malleable, but hold yourself to deep work when you ought to be working. (Flat Tomato, Focus Keeper for iOS) Good to watch the time blocks stack up, you feel accountable. A bloody perfect day is 6hrs of timed deep work. (Google Daily Rituals infographic) I’m rarely perfect.

Quantifying work. ie: converting a lecture to flash cards. 2hrs of heme path becomes 62 cards. Easier to think about (but still hard to review!)

Use printouts or books to stay away from the internet. (Had mild success only here.)

Good luck to you friend

Thanks, both of you guys. Specific and useful.
