working at state med school--take advantage?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Yes make yourself known you just never know. At least they can put a face to an amcas ID. I would start with the director of admissions. Good luck!

so i've been working for the past year-and-a-half as a researcher at my state school. it's a fairly small school, and i have relatively easy access to anyone who i'd want to talk to. my question is: is there anyone i should be talking to? that is, should i try to make myself "known" (dean, director of admissions, etc)?

I was in same situation as u, and I'd say yes!!!!
When are u applying? hope not this summer, u should be building a relationship with those there. Stop by the office, and ask random questions, anything is fair game, even stuff u already know answer to. Express ur interest, let them get to know u as a person, and they'll be the ones beggin u to apply to their schl.

When I did a brief research stint I was able to meet a lot of the med school people at school events like conferences, presentations - sometimes you can attend certain rounds presentations ... make yourself visible as a research employee who plans to be attending medical school there someday. Start checking out bulletin boards or the school web site to find ways to bump into the people you need to be introducing yourself to.

If you interview there, tell them you worked there for a year and a half, and NO ONE has any idea who you are, then that would be sad. Jump in, network, socialize, get some free food 🙂

Good luck!!!
