Hey guys, I was just wondering if you think that working par time at a particular hospital while in medical school could in any way help me get a residency there? I love the place. And if so, how do you think that i could use it to my advantage?

Thanks

Well, just like a visiting clerkship, this can either work for you or against you.

Obviously you will be more familiar with the residents and faculty in the particular department than others who are applying. If you are well-liked and a hard worker, this will be seen as a plus. However, the opposite can be true and one's view of how they are seen by others is very often colored (and usually in the positive direction).

There really is probably very little benefit to working part-time during medical school (beside the trifling income you could make) and its probably not worth it in an attempt to better your residency chances. After all, you will get exposure to the residents and faculty while in medical school.

work part time doing what? not very feasible during medical school and also probably not much benefit since you won't be doing work in the appropriate context...i think this is could better be explored through an away rotation/externship
