Working DO Overseas with PHR/DWB

I know some countries have restrictions on DO's working there. Some just limit the scope of practice. Yes, I know that's changing as lobbying continues. And yes, in 8-10 years when I'm all done, it could be a much different landscape. But, it might not.

As far as I'm concerned, MD/DO doesn't matter for my education. But, will I be at a significant disadvantage when it comes to working internationally? I REALLY want to be a part of Physicians for Human Rights (PHR). Anybody here work with one of these international organizations or know what I might need to do to ensure I'll be able to participate?

My understanding is that if you are a member of a group like DWB or PHR then even if the country doesn't give practice rights to DOs your license is through the organization, therefore you are not limited in scope as long as you are practicing as part of the group.

I'll also add that even with an MD from the US, you will be limited with working outside the US based on your language fluency, nationality, and spots available the can't be filled with a local doctor, amongst other factors, too (aside from you practicing with a group on a mission or something as @AnatomyGrey12 points out). When practicing with a group such as mentioned, you practice based on your scope at home with the organization essentially as a proxy of sorts.

Nope, wont matter at all. All these international health orgs post ads specifying MD/DO. Like the other posters said if the organization you're with is certified to work in that country, you're good to go.

A (possibly) outdated list of countries that do and do not accept DO can be found here. As you can see there are very few countries that limit the DO degree. Again, these rulings wouldn't even apply to international practice.Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine - Wikipedia
