Do you have a job during optometry school?
I've read a post where the optometry school schedule is sometime 8AM to 5PM, etc. This leaves no time for work.
Where do you get money for housing, food, etc.? Do you get a loan?

Note: my mother and my family knows a med. student and she did not work through her med. school. I was told that her financial aid or something (forgot) paid for her apartment.

Yeah, working at school (i.e. financial aid has work-study positions available in basically every facet on campus) might be the only viable option.

I work once a week for a couple of hours... at $11.00/hr that pays for my Christmas gifts really fast once you add it all up! Really, though, I use work-study as a way to supplement my loans. In the grand scheme of things I will be borrowing $115,000 with work-study, compared to $118,000 without it.

Loans or a nice investment portfolio are how you pay for school... lol.

rich family...... hmm not even sure if I have a good co-signer 🙁 but is work-study worth it? when you worked the couple hours a week- was there a day in the week when there were only classes half day? or did you work in the evening at the library or on the weekend?

do you know if canadians can get paid doing research in the summer? or is that through federal grants of which international or canadian students do not have access to?

I rarely have lab on Friday mornings, so I typically will work from 10-12. Or if class was canceled I would go in for a bit.

It is nice getting away from lecture material for a little while, and I enjoy the departments I work for. Is it worth it, yes, for my sanity! 🙂

I have no idea about Canadians and research, but I do know several of my classmates work for the profs who do research.
