Working for 2 companies?

Hi all,

I have a question. I am currently the intern at CVS pharmacy. I am interested in doing a summer internship at walgreens this coming summer over in northern CA. (There is no CVS in northern CA.) Will this be bad if CVS finds out about it?

I doubt it but who cares if they do…you can always go work for Walgreen’s. Chances are that even if they find out they can’t get that mad b/c they want your John Hancock when you graduate saying you’ll work for them and if they give you crap about an internship then you certainly won’t think too highly of them as an employer. If you’re really worried about it then be honest with them…it’s not your fault they don’t have stores up there…just my opinion, I’m sure you’ll be fine either way.

You cannot work for 2 competitors.

For example, 2 retails (cvs, walgreens, rite-aid), or 2 hospital pharmacies, or 2 wholesaler's pharmacy (BJs, Walmart).... however, you can do mix and match.

My pharmacist worked at the hospital and at walgreens while she was in school...

It's against company policy, most likely. However, I know several students who work for Kroger in one city and come to another city to do the Walgreens summer internship program. Taking advantage of being in a larger city, free apartment, partying, etc.

If you are "officially" on leave from CVS it might be OK.

i work for two "competing" hospitals as well as several of my co-workers....it can sometimes be to everyone's advantage

In N CA - you can work for any employer if you want - as long as you don't share proprietary information.

I work with relief pharmacists who go from one chain to another to hospitals & then to other retailers.

No one cares - just don't share company information - that goes without saying! But...you make that one mistake of "telling" a company held policy - boom - you're out with all of them.

So - keep your mouth shut when working between employers.

cost/reimbursment ratio for any particular insurance plan, spread pricing from wholesalers, rebate agreements, any negotiated income salary agreements (non-public), negotiated pricing or unit committments, sales points (if the corporation is public they will state their sales in various manners - new store, same store, etc...but not necessarily sales points), employee cost/sales figures, employee incentives, error rates, etc.....

Likewise for hospitals - all pricing is confidential as well as reimbursement, unless published in their corporate publications. In fact, if you work for a corporation, you probably don't even really know all the pricing structures which go on at the corporate level.

If you're not sure - don't divulge! Confidentiality is an important commodity.

1. Do I have to quit CVS in order to do summer internship for target because they are in the same area?

2. If I quit CVS, and finish summer internship for target. However, I still want to go back to CVS after target internship, will it look really bad in my resume?

In this situation I don't think I'd quit CVS - I'd ask for a leave of absence. When they ask why, you say to pursue an internship, but you'll be returning in the fall. Just leave it at that.

If you work for a relief agency, you'll be put at one company one day & its competetitor another. It only becomes a problem if you share company policy with other employees - don't be that source of information.

Here is another question. If I ask for a leave of absence for CVS, and do the summer internship for target. After the summer internship, I found out that I want to work for target instead of CVS. What can I do by that time?😕 Thank you!!
