hi all,
does anyone know any details regarding being an OD for a pharma company? such as working in clinical trials, or testing drugs, etc? what is the job market like for that, what is the salary? how competitive is it? thanks!!🙂

Hey, are you a current student?
If so you should go to Boston for Optometry's Meeting and attend the career options expo.

If you can't get to Boston, or if you aren't a student yet, then I could let you know after next week if I find out anything about it.

If you are interested, you might need some additional course work or experience in clinical trials. Several schools including UC Berkeley have clinical trials and research coursework focused on this subject.

Mind you, optometrists working in purely pharmaceutical companies isn't common and are far and few between. If pharmaceutical companies do use Optometrists, it might be in marketing more commonly than in the development side.

If you are truly interested in industry, I think you would go much further with a spectacle or contact lens company
