Hello Everyone!!!

I am currently a rising junior at the University of Georgia, majoring in Microbiology and minoring in theater. My intentions are obviously pre-dental, as I am currently completing the pre-requisites and preparing to take the DAT in order to apply to dental school. I have already completed calculus 1&2, general chemistry 1&2, principles of bio 1&2, and organic chemistry 1&2 (My worse was a B- in calculus 2). I am concerned because my overall GPA is around a 3.4, with my science GPA being slightly lower than that(`3.2-3.3). I am sure that my BCP is higher than both of those GPA's however. In the fall, I plan on taking biochemistry 1, physics 1, vertebrate physiology, and entomology(and make A's) to help boost all three types of my GPA. My extracurriculars are out of this world, as I am already the Vice-President of the Pre-Dental Society, President of the All-Male Acapella group at the University, as well as a member of many more organizations. I already have ~50 hours of volunteer work, and I plan to go on a Missions Trip to Africa before I apply to dental school. This summer, I will continue shadowing a general dentist and oral surgeon, bringing my total shadowing hours to ~100 hours combined. To improve manual dexterity, I will be taking a pottery class at a local school, and continuing playing acoustic guitar and singing on my worship team at my church. I will also be working in a microbiology lab starting in the fall until I graduate in 2015. I plan to make nothing less than a 21 on any section of the DAT to compensate for my less than stellar GPA. And least important, I am a minority as I am an African-American male. I plan on applying to MCG, MUSC, UAB, UF, Louisville, and possibly Howard. Is there absolutely anything I can do to strengthen my chances as an applicant before applying in the 2014 application cycle? Any constructive and helpful criticism will be helpful. Thank you all !!!!

your ECs are decent enough. in fact, I would cut down on them a little bit. Forget about working in a microbio lab unless you're interested in a research dental school. the ones you've listed are not research oriented schools. Your GPA is the most important thing and you need to focus the most time on improving that.

Thanks for the advice, I will do that. I'm trying to get the GPA stabilized around 3.5 for dental school, and to graduate cum laude.
