I just had an interview at UCSD. One of the internships they mentioned was interning at one of the big drug companies in the area(pfizer, gsk, etc.) They talked about going into "the industry".

What is "the industry" for a pharmacist?

Actual manufacture of medicines. One step removed would those companies selling intermediates used in synthesis of pharmaceutical chemicals.
Eg Trimethoxybenzaldehyde used to make trimethoprim.

The good thing about industry is that there is a lot of room for growth. The bad thing is that you start off with a really low salary, around 80 k a year.

... to piggy back on what BME103 said... its also very geographically restrictive unless youre like a medical liason or somethin workin out in the field.

for instance... you work for AstraZeneca - 90% youll be working in Delaware, BMS in Indianapolis, and so on and so forth.... a LOT of these companies reside in New Jersey/New York also.

just my two cents

Dang this is awesome! This is exactly what I was looking for! But now I am more uncertain about my overall goal as a pharmacist lol. I'll have to spend alot of time reading it...
