Hi everyone,

I was wondering how international students, such as Canadians, can stay working in the US after their residency if they choose to. I am aware of the fact that there are visas while at school and for residencies but would anyone be able to elaborate on the process of staying to work in the US afterwards, if ever one decides to? Would I have to find someone to sponsor me and work for them indefinitely, or would I be able to open up my own clinic with some sort of work visa?

Any info on this would be great 🙂

You would need a employer sponsor, something similar to an H1B visa that a lot of tech companies use. If you are on an F1 Visa then you may be granted up to a year of work after graduation but it needs to be approved. You will need to get a lawyer if you are planning on any of this. No one can tell you what you need to do, or even the process, without an attorney.

Some organizations such as Kaiser Permanente are more open to hiring foreign doctors.
