I am a female, currently working for two OD's, both male. I really enjoy my job, and plan on applying to optometry school, but have had some doubts lately as I reconsider my priorities. I want to have a career, but also have time for a family. I would be almost 29 by the time i would graduate from school, and would want to start a family soon after. Is it feasible to think that I would be able to take some time off, and or work just a couple days a week, and still be able to afford repaying loans. I definately only want to work part-time when my children are young, and ideally work during school hours only when they are older, and am wondering if an OD degree will prove financially rewarding if I am only working part-time, or if I would be working merely to keep up on the debt. Are there any women ODs, or anyone else, out there that could help me answer that question? Also, anyone male or female with the same dillema in school right now, and what are your opinions on the matter? thank you all so much!
