I think adcoms dont care what job we do in our gap year as long as we still show our commitment to medicine on the side. I also volunteer about once or twice a week at a free clinic on top of my current jobs. A guy gotta pay the bills.

I think scribing would be much better. You could get paid while also being surrounded by Doctors, nurses, patients, etc. I would utilize the gap year to the fullest if I were you.

Corporate scribes make ~$10/hr, others may make $15-20 but those jobs are scarce and require experience. In this vein of advice I would also recommend standardized test tutoring to OP. I imagine most pre-meds got 90th+ percentile on their SAT/ACTs and could tutor for Kaplan or The Princeton Review for $20/hr or privately for $20-30+.
But to answer OP's original question, I'm working as a team lead at a speciatly coffee shop and making about $19/hr. I volunteer on my days off. I think you can spin your retail experiences in your favor on apps. Getting my first shift lead job at Starbucks at age 19 was probably the best thing that ever happened to my social skills.
