I've worked at a medical practice that my uncle (same last name as me) manages as the primary physician. I was trained by him as well, and I primarily deal with office clerical work as well as being the one who receives the initial complaint, records height, weight and blood pressure and fills out preliminary paperwork for patients.

I think it was hugely significant patient experience and I was employed. But since he is related to me and it is obvious that he is, would it still count as appropriate clinical experience, or will medical schools brush it off?

I really hope it all counts, since I feel like I did a lot here and it really made me want to be a doctor even more. But does anyone have experience with working with family members? How did medical schools view this or how will they view it?

Yes, it counts. But try to use the most objective person possible as a Contact, like a nurse or business manager. And do not use your uncle as an LOR writer.

i am sure a large number of premeds do this. it is fine.

TBH I shadowed my mom for a couple days during spring break, I didn't use her for a letter or a contact or anything, but it was one of the most unique experiences I've had: she works as a doctor in the jail systems. I wouldn't have been able to have taken advantage of a cool opportunity to see jail medicine without her help 😉

Nope.

Go look up the term "conflict of interest".
