Hey all, I am chairman of an NGO that fundraises for and organizes medical missions in Lebanon, my home country. I discuss this throughly in my app but I never touch on any politics. In retrospect, I wouldve mentioned this less considering the escalation of the conflict after I submitted my applications. I'm worried this is seen as a red flag. Ive received 1 II from a T10 and one rejection so far, but nothing else. I was complete mid-september and my LM is 76. Any opinions on whether I should re-state the organizations non-political mission when I send an update with a pub that is hopefully going to be accepted soon?

I don't think you need to. None of your work is directly political or involves shady organizations so a school should assume that your mission is with good intentions.

Also, if a school would seriously reject you over this, it might be good riddance. That's not the kind of school environment I'd want to be at personally.

It won't be a red flag. Some of us actually know where Lebanon is and that it's a basket case of a nation.
The fact that you got the II shows that it won't be an issue.

I agree this shouldn't be a problem. You may want to practice describing what your NGO does in a manner that doesn't swerve into the heated elements of the conflict. You can find examples with MSF but do what you can to remain focused on the humanitarian morality of addressing needs of all people.

Almost all med school faculty are extremely liberal so shouldn’t be a problem

I would say most medical school faculty members are liberal. Not "almost all" and not "extremely liberal." Medical school leadership tends to be very liberal though when it comes to issues like DEI, abortion and LGBT rights, social determinants of health, etc. but not all faculty members (and definitely not all practicing physicians) share these views.

However, I agree that this should not be a problem in the OP's case. Just my thoughts.

I don't think you have anything to worry about in terms of what you have written based on the way you describe your focus, and in going forward in interviews, just maintain that focus on the people your organization is helping.
