I'm a 2nd year now at a US med school. I conditional passed a course in my 1st year which I remediated and one in my second year. Based on what I heard, this is 2 red flags. How does this affect my chances of residency application?
Thanks very much!

Thanks. I mean I guess the best I can do now is just keep going. I just dont want to do 4 years of medical school and not be able to match.

Yes, red flags. What are you interested in? There are loads of specialties where it wont be a barrier.

Honestly, any specialty that'll take me. I enjoy medicine in general. As long as I can match I'll be happy. Just scared this possibility will be gone now.

You should be fine but the more pressing issue is that these are red flags for you in terms of step 1 and clinical rotations. If those are the only issues on an otherwise solid application then it’s not too bad, but if they are accompanied by additional issues then it could become a problem. Figure out whatever you’re doing wrong an fix it ASAP before it costs you.

Wow it's almost been a year. Long story short, I fixed my study habits and did well on the rest of my 2nd year and passed step1 (mid 220's). Am a M3 now.
With this step score and my preclinical remediation, is there a good chance to match into PM&R, general anesthesiology, or FM? These are a couple fields I've been looking into. I'm hoping to P or HP my rotations. I will try for honors but I'm not sure I can get it as a lot of the evals have just been average marks with nice comments even when I've been working tirelessly. I appreciate all the help and advice from y'll.

Edit: I don't mind not going to top residency programs. I just want to go somewhere I'll get good training to be a practicing physician.

I think you'll be ok. Do you know for sure if your school even reports conditional passes? I know some don't as long you didn't have to repeat the course.

Get two sets of letters. Apply to anesthesia and apply to FM. Rank anesthesia programs you get an interview to first (assuming you like it more) then rank FM second. If you decide you like PMR or FM more, you should be fine. Be happy when you match by using this redundant strategy and never look back or second guess it again.
