So I am freaking out about my gpa's. I went to a hard liberal arts college and had a rough first two years. I am about to start my fourth and last year there and have made such an improvement in my gpa over one year of realizing that mixing 15-17 credit hours a semester with 21 + hours of working at a vet clinic was not a good match for my gpa. I just applied for my first time to LSU and OK vet schools and so far I am pretty sure my stats are as follows:

Required gpa: 3.33
Last 45 hours gpa: 3.24:bang::cry:
GRE (v+q) = 298
Vet exp = 3000+ hours

I know things may be a little different this year bc I will not be able to include grades from this coming semester. I also wonder if my school will be weighted differently and whether my improvement in gpa will be considered, since I had a huge reality check after my first two years. I feel that I am a good student and very dedicated, but I worry they wont see that.

PLEASE HELP!!😱

You are applying now?

Well, make sure your app is as sharp as possible - work hard on your PS, get some feedback on it if you can. Spend some time polishing the other parts of your app. Then click 'submit'.

In the meantime, do well in your classes and keep getting experience in case you need to apply again. But for now, think positive thoughts and wait to hear from the schools. Your GPA isn't THAT terrible - I've seen worse - but no one can predict adcom decisions, so... just gotta see.

Thanks for the tip. I have already submitted my app and I would say that my PS is written well, I got a lot of pointers from my advisers, friends, family, and veterinarian.
Hypothetically, if I don't get in this year, should I have more diverse vet/animal experience or is it okay to work in one vet for a really long time? I have also received some equine experience on her own farm and I have helped geld a few of horses.
Also what about the GRE score? It is hard to find good stats whenever there aren't any for the new revised GRE

Most of the schools have the previous classes average stats for those applying on their websites. You can find the GRE scores included with the average GPA etc. It is usually broken up into instate and out of state as well.

LSU has their previous class statistics here:

LSU doesn't even look at any grades other than Last 45 and Pre-Reqs. If they did they would have never taken me. 😉 But they DO put a lot of weight on those two, as well as your GRE score.

Here's their method of selecting applicants:

From what you've written, I'd say that if you do need to reapply next year, what you'd need to work on is your grades and GRE scores. Definitely keep getting more/more diverse veterinary experience if you have the time, but if you can take some additional courses (upper level science courses in particular) and bump up your GRE, that will probably benefit you a lot more.

i agree with you,You can find the GRE scores included with the average GPA etc.thanks
