Thanks sdn for making me realize how neurotic my post was. I guess the pressure of my upcoming interview and my recent school decisions really got to me. I'll keep practicing and hope for the best.
I'm with sharkbyte. OP, you're probably not being neurotic. If you're not getting into most of the schools that offered interviews, you need to polish your skills. Getting rejected pre-interview is usually a matter of stats and/or fit to that program, while getting rejected post-interview means you probably didn't show enough interest in their program.Usually once you've done a few interviews you'll get the hang of it but if you want more practice, I'd recommend talking to friends, parents, relatives, etc. who can conduct mock interviews with you and give you honest feedback. Are you at school? If so, you can stop by the Career Center or the pre-med office and see if they have mock interviews.
Also, keep in mind that the application process can be really unpredictable. You could be rejected or waitlisted at a school with a post-interview acceptance rate of 70% and you could be accepted at a school that only accepts 25%. That's just how it goes. Also, sometimes, what you said could have been fine but your body language, tone, eye contact, etc. could have been an issue (just tossing out possibilities, not saying this necessarily happened to you).
You said you have an interview coming up at your top choice school - you need to rock it. You need to convince that school that you'll be a great addition to their class. Always think of the end goal. Go in there with excitement and confidence. And if it doesn't work out, you have a Top 20 acceptance to fall back on which is great!
You know how they say 3 makes an MD?
I know that one of my friends in med school has been doing mock interviews with students lately through admissions ace if you are interested in a mock interview to gain some confidence.
