I am a dental school applicant who will be taking a gap year before potentially attending dental school. I will be doing dental research during my time off, but could not put it anywhere on the dental application because I have not started it yet (I will be starting in August 2012).

Is there anyway I could tell the schools about this?

Thanks in advanced for the help!

I would put it on the application with August 2012 as your starting date and under the explanation tell them the gist of what type of research you'll be doing. I would leave the hours blank if I were doing it though.

I already submitted my AADSAS application and it has been verified.

Should I call schools?

Ah sorry I didn't understand but I do now. I'm unsure what can be done other than mentioning it in supplementary applications (like when they ask a question similar to the following, "Is there anything else you'd like the admission committee to know about you that wasn't included in your application?"

Sigh, I knew I made a mistake.

Yeah, I'm just worried school's that are exclusive with supplementary essays won't even choose me because they think I'm not doing anything during my gap year...or do all schools eventually send supplementary essays?

Don't beat yourself up about it. Admission committees probably won't think you'll be doing nothing for the next year just that you didn't put it on the application. I assume many applicants don't put future jobs or research on their applications because it hadn't happened yet. Maybe call the schools and ask directly if you want some more definitive answers.

Send an email or letter to your schools describing what you will be doing in your gap-year. The admissions office will add that information to your file.

Do you guys know if all schools send supplemental applications to ALL applicants?

I don't really know how to send emails to schools without sounding absent minded or pretentious about my research during gap year 😕

The grand majority do- another excuse to take some $$ from hopefuls. I'd just email all the schools now though.
