So i just graduated and in the application cycle for dental school. I was originally gonna take up a 2 year teaching job abroad, but due to recent family issues i'm stuck having to get a job and help pay the bills for the rest of this year.

I have a 3.54 cgpa/3.4 bcp/3.37 sgpa and a 19pa/20aa/21ts DAT.

I'm really counting on getting into dental school for c/o 2015. I know even with my decent stats its a total crapshoot to get in. If i dont get in, im screwed. If i dont get i think im gonna have to take a 1 year masters starting in Aug 2011 and applying summer of 2012 so i can start in aug 2013 for class of 2017. thats A LOT of time between now and then.

any suggestions for what kind of other back up plans i should have?

You sound like you're panicking and it's just the beginning of the cycle. I'm sure with your stats you will have interviews.👍 I have similar stats to you and I've gotten two already. Second of all, granted if you don't get in, I think you should retake your dat. If you can score 22+, you will be pretty well off for applying 2011 cycle. (masters would be way to much time/money)

yeah i didnt think about that. retaking the dat would be a lot cheaper and its something i can do within this year to apply next summer. thanks

have a little more confidence! i'm sure you'll be receiving interview invitations soon enough if you applied early. take some classes but not too many that will prevent you from traveling for future interviews while maintaining a good gpa.

fyi, keeping up your undergrad gpa is very important til the very moment you pay your first semester tuition at a d-school. i was required to send to official transcripts and they warned that sub-par grades could have my acceptance reevaluated.

would it be wise to apply for a masters program that starts in the spring? if so, i would need to take the gre right away because applications for spring are due oct 1st at the schools near me.

also, WHAT IS post bacc program?? is it like masters? how do i sign up for it?? would be better to just do that and take some sci classes to boost up my gpa for a semester??? if i took 8 credits in one semester i could boost my bcp up to 3.47 and my sgpa to 3.43
