I've done a little more research into the schools I've applied to and I've found hints that some of them are in fact NOT international student friendly or are located in high crime rate areas, etc., and this is something I'd like to avoid, as I feel like I wouldn't be happy/comfortable with, as I am leaving home to pursue my education.

I've also found out that because I must largely apply to private schools, many of them are redonkulously expensive and thus may have lower entrance averages; to be frank, I know that my stats are above average and I have read that sometimes these schools will presume that high-stat applicants are using them as safeties and will not grant them interviews.

I was wondering if anyone else could grant me some advice on what I should do?

Canadian applicant. My stats, etc. are on my Pre-Dents profile. My non +/- GPA is 3.79 Sci, 3.82 Total.

So far I've applied to: Boston U, Columbia, NYU, Tufts, Temple, UPenn, Harvard, UMinnesota, UMaryland, Case Western, USC, UPittsburgh.

Should I apply to more schools? What are my options? Where do I stand the greatest chances of getting an interview? My app was complete only recently.

Thanks guys. 😳

Yeah, Case, Columbia, Penn, USC, and Temple are all in or very close to the ghetto lol. You want safe, cheap, and reputable? Just stay in Canada.

might want to edit that part.

also
lol @ choosing school based on crime rate. Isnt John Hopkins located in ones of the most dangerous place/cities in the US? Im sure that deterred many exceptional students from going there.

as for tuition, beggers can be choosers.

best to stay in Canada and hope you get into a DS in one of the non-****hole cities. [only 2 btw]

Well, call me presumptuous, mis-informed, or just paranoid, but I'm praying that I get into a school in Canada or Australia, because the U.S. is a last-ditch effort for me. I am not worried about the quality of the education; I'm sure it's world-class. I just have reservations about spending 350-400k to go to a city where I may not feel comfortable or happy on a day-to-day basis.

I know I'm jumping the gun. I'll see how I feel if/when I visit for interviews.

But besides that, are there any other schools I should look into?

I don't think you should apply to any more schools. With your stats and ECs, you could apply to 20 schools and be granted 20 interviews.

It's pretty much picking and choosing which interviews to go to from here. I've applied to only 6 schools because it was the only schools that I would see myself going to. Location is extremely important for me and so are living costs.

I'm not sure about Australian schools, but I've had a couple of friends who went to Australia for medicine, and the standards weren't that high (3.4GPA, 28 MCAT, no interview).
