Worst day ever!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Maybe, they'll take much lower numbers if you're willing to pay the generally higher tuition. You sound like the ideal candidate.

Still think I may have some sort of a chance? Obviously, I am aware that the decrease in score is detrimental..but just how much so?

Based on conventional SDN wisdom, I would think you have a shot at DO. Your EC's sound good, your GPA is ok, and your MCAT is around average for DO (although I'm not 100% sure what the average is, I think its about 27??). I wouldn't get your hopes up for MD, but it sounds like you're realistic about your chances anyway.

You could always plan a retake, but apply DO in the meantime. That way you at least give yourself some options. I didn't apply DO, and last month while I was still on waitlists I really regretted that decision because at least I could have had an acceptance somewhere.

Why not take some extra classes as a GPA booster and retake the mcat? I'm sure you can boost your GPA by .1 points by the same time next year.

If you do retake it, you have to be realistic with yourself. Why did you do worse? Did you just not study as much? Were you overconfident and didn't put as much effort into studying? Did you not do as many practice tests?

You will get into a DO school since some of them only take the best MCAT score. However, I would count on an interview question being, "Why did you retake and why did you do worse?"
