I'm not complaining but just a little curious. What is the general opinion on the most difficult state to get accepted as an in-state applicant? I've heard CA is very difficult and competitive, what are the others?
I am from Idaho which has the IDEP program through Creighton. 8 seats with an average GPA of about 3.7-3.8 and average DAT of about 21. I know Utah residents have about the same problem.
Where is the worst place to be from?

Utah... because it's such a boring state lol j/k.

A state with no public dental school.

Hum, I believe some states with no dental schools have a pact with some public dental schools regarding higher admission rates. Something like WICHE? I dunno. But yeah I agree, a state with no public dental school.

Now if we are talking about states with public dental schools, then CA wins hands-down. Way to competitive zzz.

I am not sure which school in Idaho you go to, but I went to Lewis-Clark State. Every person I knew who went therewhile I was there who wanted to go to dental school had gotten into a program. That was while I attended LCSC. I am sure there are people who have not gotten in, but those were before/after I attended the school. Personally, I think schools are sympathetic to those of us from Idaho. I got acceptance letters from all over the US as well as other applicants I know. As far as Utah residents are concerned, there is not a problem there. The acceptance rate of Utah applicants to dental schools all over the US is probably higher than applicants from most any other state.

Realistically, what it comes down to, is if you have done well in school and proven yourself, then you should not have a problem coming from any state.

I hate competing for school in Canada, too many smart peoplezz

Well I am not saying I am not going to get accepted to dental school because I am from Idaho, but it would be REALLY nice to get in-state tuition some where. If you know what I mean. I totally agree though, there are a lot of OOS friendly schools thats are very friendly to Idaho residents.

california would be hard, i heard ny and texas too only because of the population and the limited number of seats in the state schools, especially in NY

3.8+ to get interviews for any professional school where ever you go. Snows ATLEAST 7 months a year, rains for another 2 or 3. and it gets dark at like 4 pm during winter. Doesnt have many universities, health care is free and government cares about seniors. Good and bad, but ppl survive here...they dont live LIFE. Canada is good for old people, you wana have fun you need to get outa here.

And people are NOT smart....they ( i say they cuz i was not born here) dont have freaking SCHOOLS. imagine if americans only had the ivy league schools ( thats how many dent school we have here)....then only 3.8+ would get in. Thats whats going on in Canada. Too many people, too little profs to teach, too little rooms to teach in, too little x-ray machine to use and too little seats. Depressing folks, depressing.

Canadian healthcare is NOT free. Why do people keep saying this?

Bro i have been volunteering at emergency room for a year now and i have been living here for 6 years. I THINK i know when something is free ( we still pay taxes) As long as you can wait long hours, its free. ( I am talking about serious stuff, not cosmetic ).

Brah, I have a TON of family that lives in Canada. Trust me, the people get taxed out the ***** so people can get "free" healthcare. So no, it's not free.

edit: any country that gets taxed up the butt for free health care, is not free health care lol

If you look at my past posts, you can see that this is not my first time in d-school. I chose to withdraw the first time in. Back then, I was an OOS applicant at every school since I applied as an Idaho resident. So, I do know what you mean. I got accepted to all schools I applied to which were all obviously OOS. I chose San Antonio because back then, it was only a year or so previous that they quit ranking dental schools. When they did rank them, San Antonio was always in the top 3. So, I went with them. In my class, we had 6 OOS acceptances. All but one of us received scholarships that allowed us to get in-state tuition from the beginning. 4 of the 6 OOS students were from Idaho or Utah and all of us got in-state tuition.

Where is the worst place to be from?

Canada is horrible when it comes to admissions. I'm from Ontario so there are only 2 schools.

Toronto -> If you don't have 3.85 GPA, FORGET ABOUT IT, plus you need to take physiology (a course notorious at my school for giving 'smart' kids C's (it's probably the hardest dental school to get into in North America)
Western -> If you mess up final year, FORGET ABOUT IT (they drop worst 2 years, as long as one of the year is not the most recent)

I was a 3.85 student, until the final semester in which I was hit with a personal crisis and got 3.21 GPA. Lowered my overall GPA to 3.75 and now my only chance is to go to the states. I didn't even write the Canadian DAT knowing that my chances were SLIM at best.

It is harder to be a DDS than a MD/PhD combined in canada. Americans got it easy. Enjoy y'all.

Question asks which state.

Canada won't be incorporated for another 20 years, at least 😎

Not to be a downer but being from Idaho definitely sucks! my buddy and I had decent stats, high average, and we both had to reapply, me a third time, before we got in. IDEP is kind of a joke, 8 seats really? I am sure others suck too, but being from Idaho, as far as dental school goes, is definitely up there.

If you're homeless and have no income, but still get treated....that sounds pretty free to me.

It's also free in the sense that if you get cancer, you won't have to sell your house or claim bankruptcy.

what about being from germany and finishing u school in Kansas City Missouri?

haha Canada will NEVER be incorporated!

So someone is paying for it...so it's not free.

Anyways thanks for turning my question from "Which is the hardest state to receive in-state tuition?" to "Is Canada's healthcare free?"

Anyways for 2010 the IDEP stats are:

AA - 21.0
TS - 21.5
PAT - 21.75
GPA - 3.84

Thats higher than harvard...Sigh. Oh well no complaints, thats why there are OOS friendly schools.

But I do agree, Canada is one of the hardest states to get accepted for in-state tuition...

Not sure about the worst state. But I am very sure I know the best state.

Texas.

Number 2, 5, and 6 of the cheapest in-state total costs.
