While I've been fortunate enough to have a couple of acceptances, I'm still waiting to hear from my top choice. I don't really have much for an update, I've been doing a lot of research but no publications yet. Last semester I got 3 As and a B though, is this alone worth an update? My GPA is already 3.8+ so it would bring it down a tiny bit, but I didn't know if they would be wondering how I did last semester if I don't update them. One of the As was in a senior research class, and my top choice is very research heavy.

edit: this is post interview

Hey there,

Disclosure: I'm pretty detached from the interviewing process. With that said, my opinion is that this is not worth an update. However you may want to write a letter of intent. Maybe saying something about how this is your top choice, you have a few acceptances in your pocket, but you want to go there over everything. I'm not sure about your top choice's policy on letter of intent before wait list or interview decision, check with their policy on letters before sending anything.

Best of luck

yeah it's not meaningful. although @LizzyM @Goro @gyngyn @gonnif are grade updates ever useful? if so, when? maybe to show continued upward trends for those with average/below average GPA?

The decision to admit you is not hinging on your most recent grades. This latest set doesn't even pull up your GPA... it would be just a waste of everyone's time to submit it.

Frankly, I'm not sure that updates are that useful except perhaps when you are holding an offer from a great school and waitlisted at a lesser school yet preferring the "lesser" school. Why would they bother taking you from the waitlist? That's when it is worth saying, "I'd pick you, Albany Medical College, over Harvard, because I <3 NY." 😉

It's not helpful at my school because we would not have interviewed someone whose grades are an issue.

I have seen reports from some SDNers, and also from my own MS students, who were accepted after submitting an update with stellar scores.

There are some DO schools that are OK with only a single semester of good SMP performance! Mine is NOT one of them.
