Hi everyone,

I'm currently doing a DIY post-bacc. at a CC (graduated from a UC winter quarter 2018, did most pre-reqs there and did well in most except math), and I am planning on applying when the 2020 cycle opens in June of 2019. My concern is in regards to my BCPM vs sGPA, which are significantly different due to math being a component of the AMCAS BCPM GPA. I am aware of the recent AACOMAS policy changes, so neither of my GPA calculations include retakes. To protect my anonymity, I've provided some rough estimates instead of exact numbers below. Is it worth applying to any MD schools (2020 cycle as soon as it opens) with these stats, or am I better off applying strictly DO?

AMCAS BCPM: ~3.10
AACOMAS sGPA: ~3.40
cGPA Both: ~3.25
MCAT: Scheduled for summer

Rest of application:
-Upward trend (cGPA last 6 quarters: ~3.50)
-California resident
-Low GPA largely due to mediocre CC grades during high school + freshman year at a UC
-Caribbean-black (URM?)
-Good research experience
-Average clinical experience
-Average shadowing experience
-Strong LORs secured

Any advice is greatly appreciated!

Afro-Caribbeans are considered URM, so you will get some slack cut. It's no longer about the GPAs, but proving the you of now is not the you of then, and that you can handle med school. Maintain the fine post-bac GPA and do will on MCAT 505+, and you'll be fine.
