Worth it to move up?

Currently a PIC with the option of moving to a sup/dm/whatever its called now. I love the business aspect of pharmacy and would love to eventually be a regional guy or vp etc. Do you all think this career path is feasible and financially worth it? With extra shifts and bonus I pull down >150K now.

I've heard those positions are high turnover and not much of a raise is offered. Does anyone have any salary insight for dm>avp>vp>whatever else is up there? I've heard rumors that a vp makes around 300K, realistic?

It's not for everyone and definitely even higher stress than a PIC. All depends on your company though. If it's CVS or Wags, it sucks. If it is a different grocery chain, it is worth it. My old cvs DM was getting 4.5s consistently on SOS when he was a pic and now he's almost ready to quit and become pic again because the district is dying since he took over.


Just know middle management has no real power. It's all about enforcing the hour cuts from the lazy bastards in the ivory towers that give themselves massive raises each year.

With those positions, most of the $$$ is from bonus. Why do you think they're all crazy about payroll/OT and all that crap? PICs get zero bonuses of payroll. That's why I don't really care when I"m over.

Unless you want to move "all the way up" where you can make millions, you can easily make $175-200k as a PIC.

It really is annoying dealing with corporate BS.

Since you have been a PIC and work the bench, can you really tell your RPH that they only have this certain amount of hours to work with? When you know in your mind it's ridiculous?

If a DM makes 200 k including bonus then it is worth it, unless it is for Walgreens because they are still cutting. I also don't think you can be DM for long. You either have to move up or be prepared to file for unemployment benefits.

If he's at CVS, you can always move down (or be demoted). I've seen DMs return to being store managers or sups return to PICs or staff rph (albeit in different districts). I've also seen regional managers being demoted to DMs and so on.

My main concern with the position is that it has a high turnover rate and obviously little job security. Unless you can step down to pharmacist within the same company, I wouldn't expect to be there in 10 years from now unless you get promoted again.

Too much stress and I think that is how dreams turn into dust. There was a user here named Angela1234, I think he or she was manager for major company at one point and is now having trouble finding staff position

I'm curious to know what they pay. I have heard rumors as well, but no solid range has been confirmed in my pharmacy.

In terms of pay there was another thread on this forum a few months back with what seemed like a credible source that a DM has a base salary around what a PIC makes but have a variable bonus that can range in the 50 to 100k zone.

PIC is salary grade 26. Their bonus and stock options are a joke but they aren't really salaried and can make OT.

Rx Supervisor is grade 30. Salary 150-160 + car. Target bonus 22%. 15k stock options per year that vest 25% per year over 4 years

DM is grade 32. Salary 160-180+ car. Target bonus 27%. 25k stock options vesting 25% per year over 4 years. 25k restricted stock units that "cliff vests" after 4 years and pays dividends right away.

RM is grade 34...

No "grades" at the VP level and above.
