Hey peeps,

I am currently on a waitlist for my top choice. I sent a Letter of Intent in Early April that included some updates (Volunteering and new leadership role in a program) in regards to what I have done since applying. I currently work as a medical assistant at a pediatric office and when I applied, I had around 1500-2000 hours as a medical assistant. Since applying, I have added another 1000 hours and have been working through COVID-19 (Can't have kids getting behind on their vaccinations and babies still getting born so they need to be seen). I was wondering if I should send a letter updating the school about this or if I am just being annoying updating them after sending a LOI already. I'm curious as to whether or not another 1000 hours really matters and if working through COVID at a pediatric office is of any significance?

Thanks everyone

So, you added 1,000 hours since your April update, or you wasted their time with an update letter than didn't include the complete update so you'd have to send them another letter? 🙂 It would be great to get the 1,000 hours in front of them, but you do run the risk of annoying them by sending them updates every few weeks at this point in the season.

1000 hours since June 2019. Looking at it now, I feel stupid for not including it in my LOI originally (but what is done is done now) and I do not want to annoy them. Im just trying to see what others may think. It is late and may not help much now.

If you want my personal, uninformed, mere pre-med opinion, I don't think it matters one way or the other at this point, and that you should send it if it makes you feel better because you will have done everything that you could. They'd really be a bunch of dicks if they held your being so anxious at this point against you.

Thank you I appreciate it! I am wondering if any adcoms had any insight on this.

You're simply gilding the lily. If the school is needy and welcomes updates, go ahead. But I don't see it as moving the needle very much.

At this point, a school has either filled its class or needs to take someone off the waitlist to fill an empty seat. if they need to go to an unranked waitlist, they'll want to call someone who is likely to say "yes". So consider this flirting with someone you'd like to have ask you to prom. It might have no effect but then again, knowing that you'd be receptive if asked, could have the effect you are hoping for.

Thank You Goro! I appreciate the honest input. Doesn’t sound like it’ll hurt and I’m not expecting wonders out of this.

Thank you! I think I’m going to give it a shot and see how it goes. Whatever happens happens.
