Hi,

I have a W in a non-science class that I took in my early college years. Right now I am dealing with a non pre-req science class that is very difficult.

I am barely passing at the moment and I've been told it will become much harder in the upcoming weeks. I have awhile to decide, a few weeks.

Would a D look better than a W? Even with a D in this class, I will probably still graduate with a 3.3 + sgpa for DO.

W is the better choice.

Take the W. Focus on doing well in your other classes.

I plan to see how I feel in the upcoming weeks and the day or two before the deadline, I will decide then. As of now I'm doing well in my other classes. I think without this class, a 3.6+ cGPA for the term is definitely doable. I had an instance of contemplating withdrawing a pre req in a previous term after getting a 30% on the first midterm (a lot of it was because I was really having a bad morning and I was overconfident). I ended up doing way better than I expected (finished off in the B range). Probably could have even done better if I didn't do any work for the class for a whole week because I thought I would be dropping it. If I ace the next quiz, I think I will stay and probably will take the C or B if I am able to.

Would 2 Ws raise eyebrows?
I had at least two Ws. I was never asked about them anywhere I interviewed. I had good reasons for both Ws, so be prepared to answer if you are asked.

Yeah first time around. I withdrew from the class, I did poorly when I retook it but did better in the classes that proceeded it (much more advanced math courses). Also this term I'm taking max credits granted, only 2 out of the 5 of my other courses are science however.

Does grade replacement work for Ws? I have a decent GPA but more Ws than I'd care to mention. I have no issue with re-taking all of those classes but will the Ws still be on my transcript?

Yes, it does.

Take the W. I stayed in classes with the mindset that W's were equal to F's, and it hurt me in the long run. It's better to withdraw if you are completely struggling than to keep going if there isn't a good chance of passing.

On no planet is a D better than a W. I would argue that in most 3 credit and up classes a W is better than even a C.

I agree, they are good enough to get a degree, but they are GPA killers.

1 A + 1 B = 3.0 GPA , not good enough for medical school.

not even a question...take the W and get the heck out, nobody is going to care about a couple W's

I would argue that some people would question your ability to use good judgment if you choose a D over a W.
