With cGPA 3.16, sGPA 3.09, and MCAT 511 would a Master's/SMP work toward or against me?
High risk, but high reward.

Ace the SMP, and there are plenty of MD schools (and all DO) that reward reinvention.

But do poorly and your medical career is over. Which would be a good thing because a poor SMP is a predictor of poor med school performance.

You're fine right now for most, but not all DO schools.

To have a shot at ANY MD school you NEED to do an SMP. As Goro said though, you have to crush it and show admin you can survive medical school. If you don't ace it, it basically shows you can't handle it and it will basically end your chances. If you did a post-bac to raise your GPA it would help to get you in range for many more DO schools. MCAT is fine for DO.
