Looking good. Just don't slack off, and look for unique ways of displaying your altruism and humanism. I'm a big fan of Habitat for Humanity myself.

Find some non-medical volunteer work or extra curricular activities. Think about trying for leadership roles in your extracurriculars. Try to get involved with some research (either basic science or clinical is fine)

Okay cool, thanks! I am a musician, was actually going to be a classical percussionist before I decided on pre-med. I am in a band at the moment. Would progression of that coincide with what you are taking about?

Yeah definitely. I'm not a musician so I'm not familiar with how a band is structured, but try to get an extracurricular where you can assume a leadership role. Especially one where the club president (or similar) is elected or perhaps chosen by the outgoing president. I would guess that band is a meritocracy, what you want is a leadership role that shows how well you work with other people. That being said, keep up your involvement with the band. AdComs like musicians.

Also, something to think about: Don't just go around collecting extracurriculars like it's a checklist. AdComs like to see extended involvement with an activity (1 year+), and they can definitely tell when you're passionate about an activity and when you're doing it because you feel you need to in order to be accepted to med school.

RIght on 🙂 Thank you for the advice!

do things you're interested in. have something interesting to write about in a personal statement and talk about in an interview.

foster relationships with physicians/professors who will write strong letters for you.

do well on the MCAT. all else looks fine.
