Would having the recommened courses by specific med schools before applying help?

Like some recommend biochem, if I had that done before applying (and got an A), would that make my application significantly better than someone who didn't? Or would it not matter?

Maybe a tiny bit better, and probably only if your GPA and the GPA of the person you are comparing to are lower. If you both have straight As, then what is one more? For the straight A person who hasn't taken it, they will probably get an A when they do (before matriculation).

it will give you an edge over a similar applicant that doesn't have the complete requirements.

Significantly better? No, it wouldn't really. Med schools care a LOT more about your GPA, MCAT, EC's and well-roundedness than they do about the electives you take. You would literally have to be up against some one with your exact same stats and similar EC's for the presence of biochem to even MAYBE make a difference in your app. Besides, at least in the case of Biochem, med schools recommend it because you take a Biochem course in med school. However, good grades in orgo prove that you can handle the biochem.
