I emailed the professor that interviewed me and asked him/her why I was placed on the wait list instead of being accepted?

Members don't see this ad.
 
I don't think he/she would care.
 
I agree with sjv, if you want to know what went wrong, the admissions office is the place to contact however, I think emailing the professor and asking him/her how your interview was and how you could improve it, that couldn't hurt you.. he or she would either ignore you (either because he/she is busy or just doesn't even remember you) or will reply to you and give you some advice, i think it shows determination and caring
