I got a 20 AA first time around and a 21 TS, and 19 PAT. but do you think it would look good to retake it just to retake it, even if i got same score. a 21 will be hard, i got a 18 in RC and if i retook itd be tough to get a higher mark. im not that good in english. but if i retook and got a 20 AA again do you think it would show schools that i really wanna go?

i wouldn't retake unless you felt really confident about boosting your lowest score (RC). If you can improve that, then retake. 👍

I wouldn't retake. You can see my scores on predents, I had a 17 in RC and I dont think it held me back at all.

I only applied to 4 schools, and got into 1... so that makes me happy.

If anything held me back, it was def. my GPA not my 17 in RC but thats just my opinion.

Your DAT scores are pretty darn good. I'd be hesitant to retake an exam where I got that score. An 18 is average and the rest of your scores are above average. It's not your 18 that's holding you back, most likely your GPA.

What was your GPA and what school did you get into?

ADA says on a retake, more people acutally score lower than their first test. So unless you really feel that you didn't perform your best, I'd say chill out.

I'm rite there with you man! Should I retake? 1st time I spent about 2.5 weeks studying. But its a crap shoot, who knows if I can do better the 2nd time or not. To be sure I'd probably have to put in a solid 2 months to get a better score. Too bad I got the attention span of a peanut.

I retook it after I got a 20/19/20 and got rejected from all schools in 2007. I took Kaplan and got 24/24/21. But my GPA is low (3.2) so I wanted to make up for that. If your GPA is high (>3.5) then I wouldn't retake it but if you know you can do better and are dedicated to improving, you could give it a shot and make yourself stand out. Everyone getting interviews this year is going to be 20/20/19 at least.

You're Awesome! Uhhh how much more studying time did that take? How much time did you spend studying the first time?

i don't think retaking it and getting similar grades will really show schools that you really want to go to dental schools.

i have 21AA/20TS/21PAT and Im going to retake it because my sGPA is only 3.13 and 3.37 overall, and I want to make at least 22+ on AA and TS to show schools that I am capable of handling science courses. Another reason why I am doing it is because I'll be graduating and I won't have anything to do and I don't want to go home and not have anything to do.
But when I retake, I am not going to send the scores until I take the test (not going to put schools when I apply for DAT but pay for it afterwards) just in case if my scores do not improve from my first one

I say retake it man, alot of people say don't but for those of us with poor grades, and taking a masters will set u back another 2 years, whats a few months studying for the test. As long as you feel confident that you can do better. You only gotta get 2 or 3 more questions correct per section. This is taking into consideration that your Extracurriclar activities are on the weak side and don't involve volunteering 8 days a week while doing missionary trips to unsettled parts of Africa, or you're an URM.

I think I'm gonna go be a receptionist in a dental office now, my aspirations have dropped.

Actually, I didn't study at all for the DAT the first time I took it. I was still in limbo between med school and dental school (i.e. torn between becoming an ENT surgeon and an OMS). So, I took a prep class for the MCAT, took the MCAT, and then took the DAT a week later. About a month later I realized that I wanted to be an OMFS, mainly because they get to administer their own anesthesia. Long story long, I didn't apply to med school that year, applied to dental school, got rejected. I studied about 2-3 hours a day for two and a half months while working as an OMFS assistant last fall and, voila.

To the OP, I'd strap myself to a chair for about two months, get to know the material inside and out, and go dominate that test.

Thats pretty cool. If I spend 2 months I'm pretty sure I can do better, but I guess don't need to anymore as a receptionist
