Hello everyone,

Would a lack of teaching experience be detrimental to an application? I did do some health/wellness education volunteering and I also volunteered as a math/science tutor at an inner city school so I do have some non-clinical volunteering that were inherently "teaching activities." I am choosing to categorize them as non-clinical volunteering as many of the schools I am interested in have an emphasis on non-clinical volunteering and community service.

So I probably won't have anything under the 'teaching' tag. Would this be a problem? I was wondering if it's "required" in the way that clinical experience and research experience often is.

Thanks!

No it's not required, but it is a desirable addition. Even if you tag those experiences as Volunteer, you can still make the teaching aspect clear in the name you give the activity.

Thanks! For the math/science tutor I think I will just leave my title as "Math and Science Tutor."

For my health and wellness education volunteering I could either do "Health and Wellness Educator" or "Health and Wellness Education Volunteer." I feel like the former makes it sound more serious than it actually was so do you have a preference between these two potential titles?

1) Sounds good.

2) Since the activity is in a volunteer space, using that word again is repetitive. You could use your first suggestion, or downplay it more by saying "Health and Wellness Education Aide, or Assistant, etc. perhaps.

Thanks Catalystik, your input is always so helpful. I will use one of those!

No.
