Hi everyone,
I wanted to get some advice on the Pharmacy career. I've wanted to be in this career for a while now. Since HS, then in undegrad and such. I completed a Nutritional Sciences program (the program consisted of classes like: bio, calc, orgo, physics, biochem, microbio, nutrition courses, pathphys, immunology, genetics, all that good stuff) + undergrad thesis (was considering the Ph D in biomedical sciences at the time also) this past year. The only thing that made me leave the profession was all of my research I conducted about the job market. I have to cover my costs in loans pretty much entirely if I want to attend a pharmacy program. My alma mater, University of Florida, has a satellite campus in St. Pete so I could do it from home thankfully.
I've been shadowing a PA-C recently but I just don't like the work. I'm a people person but I can't see myself as a PA. My heart is just not in this PA profession (I never wanted to go to medical school either). I shadowed a Pharmacist and really fell in love with the work (clinical..retail was good too). My GPA is pretty strong (3.96/4.00) and my profile in general, and I just can't see myself doing anything else.
I've talked to my buddy and he told me it was a mistake going into Pharmacy and that's pretty much what I have been reading. I've called around my area asking about jobs and what not, and have also spoken to a few pharmacist + managers. I've received mixed responses. So my question, how difficult has it been for you pharmacist to secure jobs? Would you recommend continuing with this profession? Do you love what you do? What are your personal opinions on this career in the future? Thank you for any input. Sorry for posting here since I am not a Pharm D.
