I'm going to be taking Microbiology for the Fall 2018 semester which is offered both with/without the lab at my school. Several people have told me that the lab portion is quite heavy due to reports & tests, and that it requires prepping samples outside of regular lab hours.
On top of taking 4 other science courses in Fall 2018, I will be working on finishing up a major research project that my PI expects to be published, and will also be volunteering regularly. I fear that the extra lab portion might get in the way quite a bit so I have been thinking of taking the Microbiology course without the lab.
Is the lab necessary for most med schools? Would I be questioned/be at a disadvantage for only taking the in-class portion?
