Hi,

I tried searching for this first, however couldn't resolve the issue. Hence, decided to post it. I had gotten primarily a shadowing position from a doctor from jan 2011- may 1, 2011. I did about 60 hours as I only went about once a week for 3-4 hours. Although the position was primarily a shadowing position, I did do some other work. Basically, I would be there for about 2 hours shadowing the doctor, which would include basic shadowing stuff like following doctor everywhere and standing next to him when he was examining a patient. However, the other hour or two I would run errands such as pick up medicines from the pharmacy for seniors and help with stocking clinic supplies and interact with patients who could not speak english to help them fill out forms and stuff. This was all done in a family doctors clinic in my city. I was filling out the amcas app and hence, was wondering whether under work/activities where it says to mention about this experience I should just say shadowing or Shadowing/Volunteering at Clinic. Besides, this my other volunteering experience include helping out seniors at the mosque for about a year now. I have undergrad research experience and a part time job at college in addition to this. I will also be doign a senior project for honors college next year but dont know if that can be included in my app now or not. Hence, if you guys could help me regarding the volunteering issue that would be nice of u . THanks again

It seems like it qualify as both. Did you shadow other doctors? If so, I would write it as volunteering so it appears you have done more things. In the description you could add the shadowing part. Vice versa if you have a lot of med-related volunteering experience. As for your other question, I don't think you can submit future activities but I've heard you can update your application as it happens.

Hi,

No It was a small clinic I just shadowed one doctors and performed some of these additional duties. Hence I wanted to put Volunteer/shadow instead of just shadow as I thought my work there entailed what many out there call clinical volunteering
