Would this make adcoms think negatively?

Hey everyone. I am planning on going on a medical mission but as you can see I'm predent. Will adcoms look down upon this if I mention it? I'm not interested in pursuing medicine but its a great way for me to give back to my community. I know it may sound like a dumb question but it was a thought that I had and was curious to see if anyone knew. Thanks!

Come on man. of course not.

Are you afraid to mention that you volunteered at a soup kitchen because an adcom may think you have an underlying desire to become a chef?

Volunteering at a medical mission is absolutely one of the most enlightening experiences you can do as a pre-healthcare student, and adcoms realize this.

hey man, i think it would be a great idea to go. i was pre-med for about 2-3 years of my college career and now i've just switched to predental. the experiences you gain from these things can be used for your application and your interviews. i'm an intern and a patient advocate for the clinic that we run in sacramento and although i work with Med students, the experience i gain from patient interaction shows my devotion and passion about helping people. so go!

I participated in several volunteer projects in medicine, and not a single interviewer looked down upon my experiences. Go ahead and do it. It's not very easy to find dental missions so adcoms will understand 😀🙂😉

Thanks for the input. I knew it wouldn't be looked down upon but it seems like the whole admissions process is so fickle that I was worried it could possibly raise a brow. Talk about walking on eggshells. Regardless, I was still going to do it because the people that we will be helping really need it and I feel its my duty to do whatever it is that I can to assist in this project. My dad just finished one a couple of days ago and was telling me about it. I really wished I could have been there...

i don't think it would hurt you...but if you mention you were pre-med earlier or different things on your application allude to that.... you better have a great answer when they ask you why dentistry and not medicine....or what made you change your mind
