My plan for this summer was to study full time for the mcat, work a small part time job (I was just offered a position), and do some research in my lab at school.
My friend just told me that his brother's girlfriend does research at a big name research institute and was looking for an intern for the summer. Would it make sense for me to forget about my plans for right now and pursue this opportunity? I'm not sure when I'd be able to take the mcat before next cycle if I did this; I was banking on taking it at the end of this summer and boosting/keeping up my gpa up as much as possible during my last year of school.

Anecdotally, I got into medical school without research at a big name research institute. I did, however, need a good score on the MCAT and high grades. Take that for what it's worth.
