Hi everyone,

I am considering a job called a Health Unit Coordinator. I have searched previous forms but haven't found anything regarding this specific position. It would be working in the ICU and the job would essentially be transcribing doctor's orders, ordering labs and procedures, answering phones, and greeting visitors. It would be in the proximity (perhaps borderline smell territory?) of patients and certainly the position helps providing patient care by supporting the health care team, but I don't think direct patient interaction is much of an aspect of the role. With that said I was wondering if anyone had any insight as to whether this would be considered clinical on a medical school application.

Thanks!

For the purposes of med school applications, it wouldn't be considered "clinical" due to the absence of patient interaction. It would still be a very valuable experience, though.
