Seeing as medically their is no benefit to such a procedure. I personally appose this as it is in fact just a medieval method of keeping women from cheating.
Though I wonder if someone here will idiotically compares this to male circumcisions as a means to rationalize its legalization.
If you had a patient who told you either you did it or they'd find some other way to do it, would you? I mean isn't that what this statement is all about?
And yes, hundreds of posts have been building up to this trolling attempt
you caught me 🙁
I think what the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) is doing is bringing a cultural component to the discussion. Not everything is black and white as we would like it to be. Boy's genitals get mutilated all the time and of course no one can call it that; the proper term is 'circumcision'.
People's tradition, values, beliefs and cultures are important in making them who they are. We may not agree on certain things but we can try to understand each other.
So to answer your question, would I do a "female mutilation", that's a no but a 'nick', I really do not know. This is an ethical question and just like most of them cultural beliefs play a big role and I would have to learn more about the cultural perspectives and the ethical guideline of the AAP before I make up my mind.
