...submit your AMCAS applications with a 4.0 GPA and a 24Q MCAT? (This also assumes not taking it again this year / no more chances to take it again this year.)

Are you URM?

Assuming you have balanced MCAT with no scores below a 7, you have about 40% chance of acceptance, most likely from your instate school.

If I were you however, I would take a year off and get that MCAT to a 30. Then you are golden.

Yes....people get in with 24's. Not often, but often enough.

yea i would take a year off and retake the MCAT... dont want to sound rude but I got a 23 on the kaplan diagnostic and now after two month of studying i am hovering around 31 with another month to go. You can definitely get a higher MCAT

I wish i have your GPA though... lol

For someone on admissions, a 24 MCAT calls the significance of that 4.0 GPA into question. I wouldn't apply with anything less than a 27, and even that is a stretch.

If you can take a year, do it. If you can't then you might as well apply (not really another option) however don't hold your breath. Bigredder is right about that 4.0 being weighed down by that low MCAT. What was your major? Also, I think we're all assuming you have all your shadowing/volunteering/research/clinical in order...if not that extra year would give you time to do that.

Also, if you're applying this cycle you should apply DO because the MCAT is less severe of a detriment and the 4.0 is still golden.

Alright guys, so I ended up deciding to submit my primary application. I have received secondaries from all of the schools on my list except Medical College of Georgia (I figure they're just running late). Now I'm working on these secondaries and I don't know what it was that hit me but in an instant I just woke up this morning and started to seriously question whether I should continue these secondaries or just go for another year.

There are caveats on both sides. If I dropped my secondaries now, I'd have to get back to studying for the MCAT and start planning on taking one next February and next May if I still need another one after that. Considering my classes next semester as well as this semester, (Physiology, Quantitative and Analytical Chemistry, Biochemistry, etc.) I'm worried that making this decision would detriment my 4.0.

On the other side, of course, if I decide to continue applying, it will be a lot of time, effort, and money I'd have to exert to follow through. And if I end up NOT getting in anywhere after going through with it, it would all be a waste and I'd be getting back on the MCAT bandwagon much later than I would prefer since obviously, I won't really find out if I got in anywhere till next year. If let's say, I wait around till March next year before I start studying MCAT again, it would be a really tight two months before I take an MCAT in May (considering classes) and it would therefore be awkward to take yet another in July or August if I need yet another take.

What would you guys do if you were in my shoes? Help please.

Honestly, if I was in your position I wouldn't bother filling out the secondaries. I would fill out a few (like your instate schools) but other than that your chances of an MD acceptance are just too low to be spending all that money. Granted, you have a chance of getting in, albeit very low. Also, even in the event that you did get an interview, you would most likely be waitlisted (or rejected).

Save your money, recoup, and destroy the MCAT next time. The application process can be incredibly expensive, so save your money for a time when you have more confidence in gaining an acceptance.

I came in here totally expecting a picture of a 10/10 wearing nothing but a whip cream bikini...I am disappoint.
