Wow, Adcom REALLY is reading this board!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.

So I've been emailing back and forth with an adcom member at a school I applied to, and in the most recent email, she implied that someone told her about some of the posts I've put here...wow...now I'm a bit scared.😱

At my last interview they commented on the interview feedback on sdn. So they are definitely familiar with this site.

Hey all!

I feel like an idiot. I have been absolutely weird about my love for UPenn. I hope it is not seen as weird if someone from UPenn reads this. I just love the school so much and I would be so happy if accepted! 🙁

Well it has always been my dream to go to Harvard and I know that I would be the best student they ever had if only they would finish reading my secondary and interview me!

My AMCAS # is...
😉

yup - adcoms know about interviewfeedback and they know about the forums...but i think they browse more to get a sense of what's the student vibe, not to look for an individual's posts specifically. i don[t think there's a need to be scared....it's a free country...free speech and all that.... 🙂

 That's what I was thinking. Hmm, time to start marketing ourselves! Maybe I'll put some quotes from my supporters in my signature. 🙂

See this is from the email I got from the adcom member: "Some people have told me that you've written some kind words about XXXX somewhere on the net, and I appreciate that."

Maybe I should switch screen name 🙂

I think the general consensus is they have too many applicants to try to identify individual ones on SDN. I don't even care that much, because I don't say anything offensive on here. In fact, I think some of the stuff I've posted here would be to my advantage, since I'm not one of the people who abuses the anonymity of the boards.

i suppose if your name is Caleb Ho then yeah, you'll probably want to change screen names if you want your anonymity...but like umass rower said, they're too busy to identify individuals on SDN.

The Indian-born Australian Chinese living in the US part might be a giveaway, too. 😉

I thought those WERE quotes from your supporters.

Actually nowhere in my app says I have Australian citizenship 🙂 I have multiple citizenship and I used something else on my app

I interviewed at a school where the director of admissions (who is not on the adcom!) obliquely mentioned SDN.

That's a pretty hot-sounding pedigree, KG! 😉

Actually Caleb is my evil twin. I'm actually Norweigian and I was born in Sri Lanka.

Gosh, I made a fool out of myself on this thread...I think it's just that I sleep too much during the break and am not thinking clearly 😉

you better stop talking smack caleb.
j/k 😀

I am curious as to how the adcoms connected your application to your SDN name, since that seems like something difficult to do and not worth the time of busy adcoms.

Yeah dude, you're kinda giving yourself away by naming yourself Caleb Ho on sdn. Plus you've also got all the schools you've been admitted/interviewed/rejected at on your sig. You're actually giving adcoms more information than they usually get, and you're readily giving away your personal feelings in your post history (if any wary adcom member were to hit the "search" button on any one of your posts).

Personally, I'd change my sn at this point. Anonymity is your friend in this process. Afterwards, when you know where you're going, you could always go back to being Calebho501.

From what the :cough: anonymous person posted, they didn't connect the name directly. Apparently, this adcom has informants who ferret out the information and report back.

Oh shush 😛 That reminds me of Alias, my favorite TV show 🙂

Anyways, this whole thread is getting dumb...let's not post anything anymore 😛

yes... no more posting for this thread. DOH!!!😳 i just posted. hope the adcom doesn't realize that i can't follow directions...

Actually, schools supposedly don't even know where you have applied. Thus, they wouldn't know where you were accepted and so wouldn't be able to discern who you are from that.

However, I have been concerned about losing anonymity on this board. I particularly was surprised when someone who was at my Temple interview knew who I was on SDN. Thus, I have grown to be cautious about what I post now.

Many adcoms are actually med students and since a lot of med students use these forums, I know that people have been able to identify other people based on their posts in this forum before even with an anonymous user name. My only advise for that is just don't reveal too much personal information about yourself in the forums if you are worried about that, and just be yourself in the forums so that you will have nothing to lose. Everybody has opinions and disagrees every now and then, and adcoms do recognize that (most) applicants are human and have a "non-applicant" side to them, so I think that it's usually fine if a user is "discovered" by another member.

Well, this thread seems like just the perfect place to post this section from the SDN Terms of Service:

Member Names and Personal Information

While the Student Doctor Network does not prohibit the use of nicknames on our forums, we strongly encourage members to include their real first and last names with their registration information. Please refrain from using offensive names and never post a message under another person's name or pretending to be another person. Right. That's why it's not such a good idea to put where you've been interviewed/accepted in your signature if you have a revealing screen name. Adcoms who figure out your identity now have information that they shouldn't have access to. That's what I said in my original post.

Oh ok. That makes sense. I'm not sure if adcoms can link my screen name to my actual identity unless my name was Slick Ness...

I think we can all agree that the administrators on the adcoms do not have the time nor motivation to go searching someone out on SDN. Where you do have to be careful is that you don't give yourself away to a med student who is part of the process. A lot of people post their interview dates and times, so it wouldn't be hard for a student who is a member here to figure out some of the identities.

But that makes me wonder, how much does the student's interview feedback generally influence the adcom?

hmm. considering the only date i've posted is my sinai interview and i've made it more than abundantly obvious its my first choice, i guess i wouldnt mind if they found me out.

on that note,

Dear MSSM Admissions.

I Love your school, Please accept me!

Sincerely,

Mike who interviewed on 11/17

Geez, last time I started a thread like a few months ago, it received no attention at all...go figure 😛

hmm. I know I told my Adcom about this site, but I didn't know if she was checking it out. And I can't remember you saying to to many good things (or bad) about USC.

Hmmm well I loved USC !

If I make 100 I heart Cornell or I heart UCSF threads, will that help my apps?

I guess I should take out my mdapplicants signature....

In that case, i better write a little note to my cali schools...

Dear member of admissions staff at ucla, ucsf, uci, ucsd, usc, and stanford:

I love your school. You're all my top choices for med schools, but the thing is... I haven't gotten an interview from any of you yet. I want to assure you that I'm a pretty decent applicant... so... would you give me an interview this week? PLEASE??

Sincerely,
kwanny

well then due to my facination with the word penis and my posts in the everyone forum, I think I will post any identifying things under a new name

Aight. I can't take any risks... think I'm gonna change my signature... damn... i feel naked now... 😳

Me too I feel naked this sucks but I like my new Cornell worship signatures...

kwanny where's cornell on your list (of the schools you've interviewed with?)

Haha. well, I just included schools I haven't gotten interview from... maybe I should add another line to demand acceptance!!

I recently talked to an admissions person and she said that she likes to browse thru here (but not very often!) just to get an honest sense of what people feel about her school. She said that when they tried to poll students confidentially about the + and - of the school and their interview, they got things like: "great school, everything was wonderful" or other pretty worthless comments. I mean, who's really going to tell the truth like that?

But here on sdn the opinions are more honest and the feedback in the forums is really helpful for them to know what is working or not working at the school and in their admissions process.

That sounded fair enough to me; she said she really liked the site alot. I actually tried to make a little joke like: gosh, I hope now you can't figure out who I am - or something like that, but she was totally cool. She told me not to worry -

I don't care if adcoms figure out who i am. I have nothing to hide. I have said nothing offensive or racist nor am i putting down any schools (with the exception of MSSM and they deserve it 😛). Adcoms know that pre-meds apply to a variety of schools and they get accepted to other places.

I have no skeletons in my closet so i am not scared.

Tezzie

PS. If i start saying how much i love a few schools will they offer me money? 😎

How is it possible for the adcoms to find out who we are? I mean, if you don't blatantly state it, you could be one of dozens from your schools who use SDN.😕

Well it's quite easy for them to figure out who I am.😀 But that was a conscious decision for me. Like Tezzie, I don't have anything to hide. I didn't want to see how I might behave given a shot at internet anonymity.😉 Seriously though, I just thought I should accept accountability for my words.

P.S. Tezzie, heres to hoping. I love you University of Michigan.

it is easy to figure out who i am. i mean, come on, how many small green frogs are running around at umich? when i went to my interviews, it was immediately obvious to anyone browsing SDN who i was! i required special chairs.

yeah i was the only fetus with angel wings at all of my interviews... i needed heaters and special tubes and ****

about this time last year, my SDN sig read, and I quote: "NB: Will provide sexual favors for Sinai or Cornell acceptance"
