I'm currently located in the midwest and will be relocating my family for medical school. I'm torn with this decision because I am weighing MD vs location. I am a non-traditional student with three children and I have an extensive support network in Fort Worth (family, friends, etc). Ideally, I hope to do my training/spend my career in Texas. Wright State, on the other hand, was more impressive to me on interview day. Do the opportunities opened with an MD outweigh the networking/location benefits of TCOM?
-I have no idea what type of specialty I want to pursue.
-Both will be similar in terms of cost.
Wright State:
Pros: MD program, more impressed with the school on interview day, smaller class size, research opportunities
Cons: location far from support network, more challenging for my husband to find a job
TCOM:
Pros: location, potential networking opportunities through rotations, match the majority of students in Texas, my husband has a job opportunity in the area
Cons: I don't have a compelling interest in OMM, potentially fewer opportunities to match in a competitive specialty
