Writing about ECs during high school on my PS??

I have observed that many primary Personal statements include activities during high school. Is this because they want to spare their ECs during college to talk about them during interviews??

I am only using my hospital volunteering during high school to show how I got hooked into medicine.

I would guess this is the same reason most people would bring up HS volunteering.
