So i understand that most schools require 6 credits of writing. I already have 4 with a class I took freshman year that had the word "writing" in the course title.

Next semester however I am taking a writing course that has to do with African Studies which fulfills my writing requirement for graduation but my main question is does it fulfill most/all DO school requirements? The course title doesn't have writing or literature or composition in it but it is classified as fulfilling my writing course requirement in my school.

If it satisfies your school's writing requirement, then it may be OK. Perhaps someone from this current cycle could give a more recent account.

EDIT: Also see abolt's response below. I satisfied the English/writing requirement with true English writing courses. But I remember there being plenty of courses offered by my undergrad that satisfied a certain amount of writing requirement.

Pretty sure it was 6 credits of "English" so if it falls under English i.e. the English department, then you'll be fine.

.

Never seen an explicit writing requirement. Schools almost always say "English".

I had a basic composition class that almost every student is required to take at my UG, then I took some English lit class. Done.
