Ok, sorry for this juvenile question...but I want to clarify.

The PS, I know its supposed to convey your motivation for becoming a doctor, but what else? Explaining the random bad grade first year or other things of similar nature?

You can search to find a bunch of responses to this quicker than you'll get them here. Anyway, I think many people use the PS as a way to explain things about themselves that isn't really conveyed by the checkboxes in the AMCAS application. If you feel there is something that needs to be explained right off the bat, then the PS would be a fine place to do that. You would be using it to tell your side of the story in a positive light as soon as possible instead of waiting for an interview. If you feel something needs to be explained so that it doesn't prevent you from getting an interview, then I think it serves it's purpose well.
