writing to the admissions dean

so if i write a letter addressed to the admissions dean, will it necessarily get to him?
or does everyone write to the dean but the letters just get opened by someone else in the admissions office?

Most probably his secretary opens and sort his mail for him. In that case she will pile it with other things he also got in the mail. If his/her name is on it then he should get it straight.

If you addressed it to the admissions committee then he/she can have their Sec. file it(incoming student info) into the student's application until committee review.

That's my take on it. You can email it to him to make sure he reads it ASAP.

I agree with Mellow, definitely get the Dean's direct mailing address. If you mail it to the Admissions office, the Dean may never see your letter.

When you write letters of intent or interest or to update your file, do you always write RE: at the top? What if I am writing a a lettr combioning the 3 things I mentioned...what do i put for RE:?

for all the letters i've sent to the medical schools, i've sent them via certified mail with return receipt. when i addressed letters to the deans, someone else would always sign for the letter. thus there are people intercepting it.

but that doesn't necessarily mean the dean himself or herself isn't actually reading the letter. maybe the office just has the same person who always signs for the mail or something?

When I sent my letter to Pritzker, Dean Lombard himself emailed me back the DAY it arrived with a very reassuring letter. Yet I doubt Dean Gessner (U of Florida) ever saw my letter. I wrote the dean's names on the top, but sent them c/o the Admissions office in both cases.
