To all you dental students, do any (many) professors include writing research papers in their course? I am not talking about those students who are doing research, but about all the student in the class. Is any portion of the grade given to writing a paper, or it's just based on exam grades?
Thanks.

So far we have to write (sort of) research papers in biochem @ Stony Brook. You're given a question and you have to use a couple of sources from pubmed and the like. 3-4 pages long. It's pretty easy to get a high grade on though. There are 3 for the class for a total of 15% of the grade.

That's more or less what we do 3 times a week with our PBL here at USC.

Hadn't realized until now that we have had to write nothing since starting dental school.

Raising the bar, like every single day...

Thanks guys, anyone else?

Haha it's not a real research paper, it's a stupid 3 page paper about some topic they give you. Don't worry it only takes like 4 hours to do and you will almost certainly get over a 90%.

Nothing too heavily critiqued, but tedious. We've been given dental topics to read research and peer-review articles to collectively summarize in 4-5 pages. Kind of a blow off class, but it's easy to get angry that they assign the work knowing all else we try to cram into our days. But they're few and far between.

And yes this class is called Dental Information Management and is solely graded on the papers.

nope, just had to evaluate a journal article once. took like 2 hours while watching tv.

Now that you mention it, this is how got to be the least amount of papers I've ever had to write in my life! 👍

But that's because we have so much other work to do.
