Hey guys, thanks in advance. I didn't have much luck getting a response on Reddit so thought I would post on here. Take care.

Year in school: Graduate (gap year) applying June 2018.
Country/state of residence: AZ
Schools to which you are applying: (rough list, need to cut it down) Creighton, Drexel, GW, Georgetown, Temple, Vermont, Sidney Kimmel, UCLA, Tufts, Tulane, USU, UA Tucson, UA Phoenix, Iowa, Miami, Missouri-Kansas City, Rush, Wisconsin, USF-Tampa, VCU, Wake Forest, WVU, W. Michigan, Loyola, Geissinger, EVMS, NYMC, Chicago MS.
Cumulative GPA: 3.68
Science GPA: 3.53
MCAT Scores: N/A. Spring '18.
Research – 3 years fMRI human brain mapping lab. 5 posters, 7 abstracts, 3 conferences, 1 pub, 1 first-author pub in-review. Still in the lab.
Volunteering (clinical) – 2 years hospice for end-stage dementia pts. Still volunteering.
Physician shadowing – 4 years shadowing ENT (MD), clinic and OR. Still shadowing.
Non-clinical volunteering - Coached a few motocross training camps to younger kids. Been a camp counselor multiple summers.
Extracurricular activities - Race motocross semi-professionally (11 years), president and founder of AMSA chapter (2 years), mountain biking. Used EMT skills to resuscitate someone on campus once.
Employment history - Taught gen bio and A&P labs in college (3 years). Currently doing patient transport in a level-I trauma hospital.
Immediate family members in medicine? No
Specialty of interest: Neurorad or IR
Shadowing experience: ~1200+ hrs.
Graduate degrees: Nope
Interest in rural health: Yes

Probably the strongest EC is your research, which unfortunately isn't going to mean as much to your target schools. That being said your volunteering is really great and clinical experience is strong (1200 hours shadowing? how..?).

If you can pull a 508-510+ on the real deal, you'll have a very solid application and a good list. You can probably save some $$ though and toss out Wisco, Missouri, WVU, and any other state schools that aren't OOS friendly.

Thanks for the input. I am going to toss out all schools that don't have at least 40% OOS acceptance based on the '17 MSAR. Shooting for a 512. And yeah, I've been shadowing just about every week since the summer after high school ended (minus holidays, etc.).
