Hello,

I need advise on a silly mistake I made for one of my letter of recommendations. I had a TA write me a letter and she told me that the professor also wrote and signed the letter. Well, it turns out that the professor did not actually sign the letter. On my primary, I put the professor’s name as the writer for this letter instead of the TA’s because I was under the impression that both signed it. One school contacted me to simply clarify if the TA was the correct writer, one school asked me to resubmit the letter through AMCAS under the TA’s name, and another school wants the professor to co-sign the letter. I don’t know what to do. I don’t want to delay the processing of my secondary application but I want to inform schools about the correct letter writer. Should I resubmit the letter to all schools under the correct name or just wait for them to contact me for clarification? I am a little concerned about how silly/unprofessional this mistake might look. Any advise would be seriously appreciated.

Only three schools have contacted me out of 36 secondaries submitted early July to early August. For the school that needs the letter co-signed, I asked them to withdraw the letter as they have my other letters that meet their minimum requirements and I do not want to delay my app review.

That really sucks. That TA should've had the letter co-signed/signed by the professor if they said that's what would happen. Otherwise they should've told you that it wouldn't be signed by the professor +/- why the professor wouldn't sign it (if they refused) first before submitting it. I think it was actually quite unprofessional on your TA's part but what's done is done. I don't remember/know this anymore, but I think if a professor didn't sign it or co-sign an LOR it's like not having one at all.
